The child need to be assessed in a joyful type of assessment like games i.e puzzle, children's simple sports activities, singing and reading along with the teacher with the basic knowledge of what the student have had. Most importantly let them observe and interpret of what they seen in their environment and build upon it. Let them explore their fullest potential and guide them along. We must also encourage leadership or group method of play activities to be assessed. These are by far my activities that i had conducted so far with the portfolio. I'll find more ideas in the future. 26. Methods of child assessment can be informal (conducting natural observations, collecting data and children’s work for portfolios, using educator and teacher ratings) and formal (using assessment tools such as questionnaires and standardized testing). Both methods are effective and can help inform educators and parents about a child’s progress.

👉 Observations can be made with minimal or no intrusion into children’s activities. Educators can observe all facets of development, including intellectual, linguistic, social-emotional, and physical development, on a regular basis.
👉Portfolios are a record of data that is collected through the work children have produced over a period of time. The collection clearly shows the progress of a child’s development. Portfolios can be an important tool in helping facilitate a partnership between teachers and parents.
👉Educator Ratings are useful in assessing children’s cognitive and language abilities as well as their social-emotional development. These ratings can be linked to other methods of assessment, such as standardized testing or other assessment tools.
👉Parent Ratings integrate parents into the assessment process. Parents who are encouraged to observe and listen to their child can help detect and target important milestones and behaviours in their child’s development.
👉Standardized Tests are tests created to fit a set of testing standards. These tests are administered and scored in a standard manner and are often used to assess the performance of children in a program.

There are two main types of assessment, each occurring at different points in the learning process: formative, which occurs both before and during the learning process, and summative, which occurs at the end of key segments in a learning cycle or the end of the learning process.

  40. Teachers need to use a variety of appropriate methods of assessments for observing children's achievement in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. It also includes collection and recording of assessment information to:

    • guide ongoing teaching and learning.
    • record the continuous progress in FLN.
    • monitor and evaluate each child’s progress.
    • maintain the portfolio of each child’s progress in FLN.
    • report achievement to parents and relevant authorities.

Informal assessments are more flexible than standardised/formal assessments because they can be adjusted according to the child being assessed or to a particular assessment context. Teachers make decisions regarding with whom informal assessments are used, how the assessments are done, and how to interpret the results. Informal literacy assessments can easily incorporate all areas of literacy such as speaking, listening, viewing, and performing rather than focusing more exclusively on reading and writing.
